The harm that the world has caused on the environment along with the dishonourable practices on animals, workforces and material use has long been a point of much debate in the fashion industry. During the latest years, more light has been shed upon the industry’s stance on such issues commanding an immediate shift from within . This has led to many brands reconsidering their practices and the birth of smaller, ethical and respectful houses.
jakke is a fashion brand designing clothing and accessories, with a specific specialty in faux fur. The designs are colourful, pop-inspired and destined to last for many seasons opposing mass-production mindsets.
Moral Mindset
In the chaotic world of fashion and creation, with the easy solution being to adopt practices ethically questionable, brands like jakke make a difference.
Recognising the disastrous effects real fur has both on the environment and on animal welfare, Jakke bets exclusively on faux fur in order to create versatile designs and encourage recycling if needed. Moreover, their employees are treated ethically–with them visiting and interacting with them often. The brand also works with other family businesses to encourage local production.
In its ever-evolving sustainable identity, jakke continues to search for new methods to implement environmentally-friendly practices. Most recently the company announced proudly that 45% of its collection was made out of recycled bottles aspiring to increase that percentage as the years go by.
But alignment with core values is not the only key reason to choose jakke. The brand collaborates with initiatives and artists like Astrid Wilson to create exclusive prints and rare pieces.
About jakke
Nina Hopkins is the person behind the creation of jakke. The East Londoner established her brand in 2015. Aware of fashion’s calamitous impact on humanitarian, environmental and animal issues as well as the role fashion can play in a woman’s confidence and consumer needs, she decided to create jakke as a solution for women to buy guiltlessly and proudly.
Since its launch, the brand has been recognised by PETA as the ”Best Faux Fur Brand” and ”Best Wool Free Brand” for its efforts to operate in a cruelty free manner. With a philosophy that is in line with current environmental and societal shifts and consumer demands, we are looking forward to what’s in store for jakke.
