Travel to the 7th district of Vienna and walk up to Neubagasse 35. Dark monochromatic lowercase letters spell out a nonchalant invitation to a venue. Walk to discover mannequins dressed in seasonless fashion where individuality and freedom from the financial and socio-cultural status quo is coded into every garment. This is the world of Lena Kvadrat, founder of art point.
This is the brand for those who want to live like post-industrial music enthusiasts, popularly known as ravers. These are the people at the centre of the underground fashion scene known as dark European ravecore. This movement appeals to the ethos of those keen on fist-bumping the air of abandoned warehouses with mystifying DJs.
The aesthetic of art point pushes past sleek leather coats, tight latex, and mysterious oblong shades characteristic of counter culture industrial ravecore fashion aesthetic associated with the film Matrix. Instead, it proposes rugged yet light and breathable textiles for garments such as mesh. Pieces also allow for flexibility to be constructed and deconstructed through attachable sleeves, clips and zippers.
The character of each collection is expressed in garments imprinted with sombre colour palettes and darker tones and shades. Alternatively bright hues with different saturation values take over depending on seasons. To compliment these creative decisions, asymmetrical shapes that resemble cutouts are patched together, highlighting the theme of flexibility which is ever present with this label.
art point was originally launched in 1998 in Moscow and has been present in Italy since 2001. This sober label by the Austrian-based and Moscow born designer pays an homage to the spirit of austerity. This theme takes an elevated importance in a time where maximalism is on a high following the seclusion and restriction marked by the pandemic.
The concepts of her designs land well with the public, that being the streetwalkers of the Neubau. In this segment of the Wiener concrete the desire to disrupt the status quo is lived and breathed in 8k through local fashion like art point. Accept the invite!
