A colour-filled blast straight from the ’70s, Celia B brings to us some necessary aesthetic moments. Her slow-fashion designs are seasonless. They consist of pieces meant to be worn year-round–whenever you wish to without thought of being on-trend. As such, she offers vintage-inspired fashion in a more equitable way.
Her aesthetic encapsulates some of the key needs of 2022: retro 1960’s-1970’s designs, an element of twee (the aesthetic of 2010 era heavy on 1960’s collars and designs) and most importantly a strong element of child-like aesthetic: the choosing a rainbow of colours to express and infuse joy throughout your wardrobe. This is also a part of Celia B’s mission, to bring joy and fun to a world that truly is in need of it now.
Vintage Now Fashionable
There is probably no greater look in the vintage style book than a crocheted dress, haunting similar to the couch throw of the 1970’s, with a 1960’s baby doll collar.
Child-like
The full utilisation of the spectrum of rainbow colours brings out the playful quality child-like aesthetic; the overwhelming joy of running to the crayon box and choosing all colours at once.
Twee Revisited
These outfit captures twee revisited very well; gawky and quirky with polished layers reminiscent of the 1960’s. Yet the original floral pattern designs give it a fresh remix, different from the 2010 rendition.
The Story of Celia B
The adventurous, free-spirited wanderer archetype explored through Celia B’s designs is actually quite rooted in her identity. She has traveled all over the world, from Dominican Republic to Indonesia and a thousand places in between, and collects patterns and textiles from all the places she visits. The striking Spanish charisma of her pieces is also rooted in her identity and locality as Spanish. The endless colourful patterns are also inspired by the bright colours of Moroccan medinas.
A creative in her own right, with years of fashion PR and communication schooling and work with world renounced fashion companies like Zara, she established her creative world as a label in 2012. Celia B designs celebrates diversity through “mixing aesthetics, traditions, techniques, colours and patterns” from all over the world in a unique way.
