It’s another new year so we are preparing for yet another amazing fashion revolution. AiSPi Founder Aisha Saraf Kothari starts off this year by answering a common dilemma that all of us face: how to stay stylish while braving the unusually cold winter temperatures.
Whether you’re heading to a skiing holiday or any just a snow-filled adventure, despite the weather, looking good is a challenge worth taking on. Ahead, we get some exclusive insights from the founder about whether it’s possible to stay warm but maintain the glam this winter season. Her fashion tips are guaranteed to help you stay warm, stylish, and forever ready for those Instagram-worthy moments.
Choose Your Statement Accessories
It’s important to never undervalue the impact of accessories, particularly in the cold. “Any ensemble can be quickly elevated by investing in statement accessories like ear masks, hats, gloves, and sunglasses,” says Aisha. These accessories work as useful tools to keep you warm in addition to adding a glamorous touch to your appearance. Therefore, don’t be afraid to make bold purchases.
Jackets Are A Winter Must
A carefully selected jacket has the power to completely transform your wintertime style. Think about making an investment in a variety of coats, from colourful and bold to elegant and timeless.
“I carry jackets ranging from hot pink to classic fur and even a sleek black coat. At the end of the day, a jacket is extremely important if you’re going to be hanging out outside braving the cold weather,” says Aisha. Her pro tip when it comes to purchasing a jacket is its composition: “Authenticity and warmth are correlated with the composition, so pay attention to it whether it’s cashmere, down, or fur. The more authentic the composition is, the better the warmth will be.”
Having a selection of adaptable jackets guarantees that you’ll be prepared for any winter activity. The important thing is to make sure your jacket fits well with your ensemble and offers enough warmth.
Invest In Inners
“At times, I didn’t have a nice enough jacket that kept me warm. And what’s when I brought out my super cute inners! You can layer up on the inside, wear multiple thermals, a fitted sweater and throw on a really baggy oversized one over it. That instantly made my oversized sweater cross-function as a jacket as I was wearing almost four layers inside.” Pro tip–you must always layer with stylish pieces when on a ski vacation because chances are, you will keep removing and adding layers as you switch between cottage, outdoors, and snow-covered mountains.
High Quality Shoes
Cold weather demands appropriate footwear, so high-quality shoe purchases are essential. “Whether you’re shopping for combat, knee-high, or block-heeled boots, pick styles that are both stylish and practical. Choose a heel that allows you to walk a long distance with the fear of not getting a cab.” Winter weather can be erratic, so having a selection of boots in various hues guarantees that you’ll be ready for any situation, day or night.
Style and comfort go hand in hand, particularly when it comes to shoes. “Open toe shoes are something that needs to be avoided for obvious reasons that it is not practical for winter fashion,” says Aisha when talking about winter fashion faux pas.
Dress For The Destination
When packing, it’s important to keep in mind where you’re going. “If you’re headed to a snow-covered wonderland, keep in mind that while the outdoors might be cold, the indoor locations are super well-heated. This gives you the freedom to dress up a little lighter, sexier under those warm and heavy jackets.”
“It’s important to keep materials and cuts in mind. Keep aside your cotton and viscose pieces, and opt for heavier materials like velvet, silks, and others. They work really well for winter.”
“Don’t forget about the cut of a garment,” reminds Aisha. “Pack your dresses that dip sensually in the back, pieces with a plunging neckline, and of course body-hugging gowns!” After all, it’s all about making a statement inside the coat as well as outside of it.
