Based out of Lisbon, Alexandra Moura is a contemporary brand known for its avant-garde approach to fashion. The designer plays with the themes of deconstruction, textures, and volume to create clothing that’s unique, modern, and fabulous.
For her curated collections, she finds inspiration through the history and culture of Portugal, the concept of Romanticism, Japanese design philosophy, and artisanship. The brand’s DNA is highly conceptual, artistic and experimental. Individualistic and eccentric, her creations always relate stories in a poetical way.
Alexandra Moura is leading the movement for Portuguese arts and culture along with her fellow contemporaries through the lens of fashion. Her designs are fearless, bold, and the very basis for the word high-fashion.
Deconstructed Femininity
Alexandra Moura collections can be easily identified by their conceptual, seasonless design philosophy. Timeless and fresh, the Portuguese brand plays with the concept of contrasting forces by meshing together textures, references, and silhouettes. Retro Romanticism finds a place in urban design, classic looks clash with iconic sportswear motifs, and feminine shapes and details find a home in masculine silhouettes.
The brand is all about driving the movement of fashion with an innovative aesthetic that’s futuristic and familiar at the same time. Their collections draw inspiration from the cultural mood of Portugal which is “renowned for its romantic, melancholic spirit,” says their website.
Each garment by Alexandra Moura will make you feel how passionate the designer is about mixing different textures and materials. From monochromatic outfits, geometrical shapes, contrasts, innovative spirit, unusual colour palettes to silhouettes that construct bold and exaggerated shapes, the brand experiments without fear Going against conventional trends, this Lisbon-based designer focuses on attention-to-detail, expert craftsmanship, and an innovative design aesthetic.
Their pieces pay homage to the world; combining fabrics and colours together in a genius manner. They work with sheer fabrics, knits, textured materials, and more–making them come together in a single garment in perfect harmony. The designer’s eye for proportion and details makes every piece desirable and collectable.
Digital Collections
Staying a cut above the rest of the fashion world, Alexandra Moura designs cutting-edge collections for the metaverse. The brand is completely in tune with the zeitgeist. They collaborated with Seamm, a digital wardrobe and marketplace in the virtual world, to create digital designs which can be transferred to items in video games, metaverses, and can be collected exclusively online.
The History Of Alexandra Moura
Alexandra Moura launched her label just after graduating Fashion design in IADE. She is the only Portuguese fashion designer introduced in publications such as “Young European Fashion Designers”, “Atlas of Fashion Designers”, “Mapa da Moda Contemporánea” and “The Sourcebook of Fashion Design”. Having multiple awards, since 2003 she also teaches Fashion in Escola Superior de Artes – ESART, in Castelo Branco, Portugal.
“My biggest challenge is to pass my experience and daily work as a designer on to my students.”
Despite her natural talent and sense of proportions, Alexandra never ever thought about being a fashion designer. As a youngster, she was completely into science, animal biology and astronomy. Everything changed with a trip to London, where she found a book about the aesthetic of Comme de Garcon. She realised that this matches her perceptions about style. So, coming back to Portugal she started a fashion course in IADE.
Since then, she has applied her extensive knowledge and unparalleled creativity to design collections which has gained international acclaim. Now recognised as one of the best brands to come out of Portugal, we’re always on the lookout for what’s next in Moura’s artistic vision.
