This week, we are taking a deep dive back into history. Two decades back to be precise, to the year 2000, also known as Y2K. Inspired by pop-culture and technological advancements, the era was a time of fun and loud looks. You may remember the mini skirt, true religion jeans, flip phones, and hot pink, to name a few. With Generation Z responsible for the resurgence of the era, you might not, however, feel as comfortable bearing your midriff as these youngsters. Don’t worry, we at AiSPi have revamped the iconic styles and trends of the 2000s. Taking on a more mature and elegant feel, so you can relive your teen years stylishly.
Low-rise
Inspired by hip-hop music and streetwear, low-rise jeans were a fashion staple of the 2000s. To freshen up this trend, pair a low-rise flared or bell-bottom jean with a tight bodysuit underneath for a more sleek and sophisticated version of the Y2K swagger. Inspired by the iconic Juicy Couture tracksuits of the time, why not try velvet? Paired with a long sleeve blouse or a comfy sweater, and you are Y2K-itted out.
Platforms
Extremely flattering on the figure, adding a pair of thick brightly coloured or patterned soles will bring that 00’s pop to any outfit.
Everyone remembers the chunky flip flop sandals of the 2000’s. However, in this case we feel they are best replaced by a timeless chunky heel for a more elegant look.
Accesorize
The Y2K trend is all about one thing when it comes to jewellery: kitsch. With bright pink heart earrings, sweetie bracelet bangles and necklaces with butterflies or smiley faces, accessories were vibrant, random and funky. The way to turn kitsch into chic; swap pink for silver. By wearing a mix of chunky silver jewellery or a dainty silver heart necklace, you are embodying the essence of Y2K while still keeping it classy.
The Small Crop
One of the main t-shirt trends of the noughties were baby tees. Super cropped, tight-fitting, colourful characters, funky quotes and short-sleeved was all the rage.
Reminiscent of the same style, you can freshen it up by wearing any patterned or fun crop top. To fully embrace the decade, you can also pair a feminine corset top with your baggy jeans for the best of both worlds.
Colourful Shades
Inspired by hip-hop culture, big rimless, shield, and colourful shades have made a comeback. We must say, this is a trend that works as is. A pair of pink or purple rimless glasses we feel can bring out your inner teen and add a funky youthful touch to your sleek all black suit or casual day-to-day outfit.
