For Ely Hopkins, founder and designer of Jill Hopkins Jewellery, becoming a jewellery creator had always been the ultimate dream.
Born and raised in Mexico, she discovered her passion for designing, creativity and fashion at just age 13 and still holds the same enthusiasm today. Daring to dream big, work hard and get over several challenges, Ely has never stopped returning to her love: jewellery.
Based in London, the designer specialises in statement earrings and rings gathering inspiration from her roots, the town of Tepic in Mexico.
The Motherhood Influence
Hopkins has been especially open about the challenges and disruptions she faced during and after her pregnancy. As she admits, she had to pause her business operations, a pricey cost for a woman used to working and being active and with consequences to her professional self.
However, she decided that this story would not have a sad ending. With her strength and mentorship from her women role models who, from an early age, taught her the value of persistence she decided to be reborn as a designer and created the deeply personal Mother collection as a tribute to motherhood and women.
Hopkins is definitely an advocate for gold jewellery, big sizes and pearls. As Jill Hopkins jewellery are attention-grabbers, they can be perfectly paired with a monochrome outfit that shall allow them to steal the show.
For funky style lovers, a printed shirt or dress would be perfect when combined with a pair of earrings from the Jill Hopkins line.
Although the designers’ primary focus has always been jewellery, she is not afraid to experiment and add exclusive pieces of other accessories such as bags or hair pins to the Jill Hopkins collections. All pieces are handmade by artisans and made following ethical processes, making Jill Hopkins a respectable slow-made brand.
The History of Jill Hopkins
As mentioned in the beginning, the brand was founded by Ely Hopkins. Knowing from a young age that she wanted to work in the fashion world, Ely left Mexico at age 18 and went to London to learn English for a year–while she studied, she took on several jobs to support herself and fulfil her dreams. She returned to Mexico where after a few years she created her first jewellery line. After discovering the world of jewellery and being mesmerised, Ely decided to learn everything about the business at Central Saint Martins, returning to London and launching to Jill Hopkins Jewellery.
