This week, we decided to to take you on a virtual journey to Amsterdam, to discover what the city has to offer in terms of culture, art, food and fashion…
Art
The infamous Van Gogh museum is located in the heart of the city, with so many memorable pieces presented alongside the story of his life, it is touching yet inspiring. This should be at the top of your list to visit, as with the other galleries located in the same area, but remember to book in advance as the spaces go so fast. The sex museum is also eye-opening but fascinating, not for the faint-hearted!
History
The Anne Frank museum is a truly devastating thing to see in person, although equally as important for the heritage of the city. The Heineken museum makes a great day out, even for those who are not beer lovers no the Lookout point is also something to make a day of, with the EYE Film museum right next door.
Fashion
Fashion for Good is the world’s first museum for sustainable fashion innovation, and an online platform that provides support for start-ups specialising in circular fashion. With numerous thrift stores and the renowned Amsterdam Fashion Institute, the city is a rising leader for sustainable and innovative fashion. As well as being home to couture label Iris van Herpen, Aispi represents boutiques such as the empowering feminine brand Fabienne Chapot, Timna Weber that specialises in handcrafted sustainable garments, and the snake-devoted concept store Atelier Amstrdm. De negen straatjes is also a must-visit, translating to the nine streets, of vintage and designer boutiques. View our article on our top picks of boutiques in the area.
